Book on WhatsAppAdd the sunrise, +60,000 CLPTour B follows the south coast past toppled platforms and tightly fitted stonework, to the quarry where the moai were carved, and finishes at the fifteen statues of Tongariki.
Where Tour A tells you who built the moai, Tour B shows you how. By the end of the day you will know how they were carved, moved and raised, and what happened when they fell.
An ahu with stonework so precise that the stones fit together with almost no gaps.

Another ahu on the south coast, where fallen moai show what happened when the statues were pulled down.
Fallen moai lie face down in front of the platform, with their topknots on the ground beside them.

A large ceremonial site by the sea. Tradition links it to Hotu Matu'a, the island's first king.

The quarry where almost 400 moai were carved from the volcano's rock. You can see them at every stage, from first outlines in the rock to finished statues, and the largest moai ever begun, which was never finished.

Fifteen restored moai on the largest platform on the island. A tsunami scattered them in 1960 and they were raised again in the 1990s.

Watch the sun rise behind the fifteen moai, with the island almost to yourselves. About 3 hours, early morning, before your tour day starts.
